PURPOSE: An apparatus for diagnosing a unit using a system highway is provided to check and diagnose the unit at real time without a specific bus in a system by performing a badness of a diagnosis of the unit using a time slot and a test pattern to be not used in the system highway. CONSTITUTION: A test pattern generating unit(31) generates a test pattern for diagnosing a test object unit(40) on a system motherboard. A time slot assigning unit(32) receives the test pattern generated in the test pattern generating unit(31) and assigns a time slot to a highway to be tested. A test pattern detecting unit(33) certifies the test pattern received from the time slot assigning unit(32), discriminates whether an error exists in the received pattern, operates an error count, and informs the counted value. A test pattern generating unit(41) generates a test pattern for diagnosing the test object unit(40). A time slot assigning unit(43) is connected with the time slot assigning unit(32) of a test unit(30) for assigning a time slot to a highway to be tested. Multiplexing/demultiplexing units(42,44) select whether the test pattern received from the time slot assigning unit(43) of the test object unit(40) is returned to a transmission part or an error is judged in the test object unit(40) by the test pattern generating unit(41) and a test pattern detecting unit(45). The test pattern detecting unit(45) certifies the test pattern received from the demultiplexing unit(44), discriminates whether an error exists in the test pattern, operates an error count, and informs the counted value.
