<p>The rate at which the carbon in the cast-iron is oxidised, the rate at which the slag is oxidised, and the coefficient K = CO / CO + CO2 , where CO and CO2 are the relative proportions of these gases in the exit gases are determined. Determination of K allows control of the oxidiation rate of the carbon in the cast-iron, by varying the supply rate of oxygen, and hence allows control of the refining process.</p> |
