A handle for an implement such as a knife is formed by providing a shaped body (19; 50) at a tang end (12) of the implement and then placing a metal casing (33a, 33b; 71a, 71b) around the body. A molten thermoplastic material is then injected between the body (19; 50) and the casing (33a, 33b; 71a, 71b) to fill completely the space between these parts and bond them together. This provides firm attachment of the housing (33a, 33b; 71a, 71b) to the body (19; 50) and prevents the ingress of water. The implement can thus be made hygienic and dishwasher proof. |
