PURPOSE: Device and control method for preventing overcooling of an evaporator in an air conditioner is provided to circulate refrigerant gas discharged from a port of te evaporator into the evaporator, and to prevent overcooling of the evaporator without considering position of a thermistor. CONSTITUTION: A control method for overcooling of an evaporator in a vehicle air conditioner comprises a first step deciding whether an operating switch of an air conditioner is turned on after starting the vehicle(S1); a second step turning off a direction convert valve and a return pump while actuating a compressor(S2,S3); a third step detecting surface temperature(Te) of the evaporator from a thermistor(S4); a forth step comparing the surface temperature of the evaporator and an established temperature as overcooling temperature(S5); a fifth step preventing the overcooling of the evaporator by letting refrigerant gas into the evaporator; and a sixth step operating the third step after circulating the refrigerant gas. The refrigerant gas is let in the evaporator by turning on the return pump and stopping the compressor while the surface temperature of the evaporator is under the established temperature. The evaporator overcooling preventer establishes a range of the temperature before freezing a surface of the evaporator to prevent overcooling of the evaporator by raising the surface temperature.
