PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for testing trunks in an exchange is provided to execute an analog characteristic test and a digital characteristic test for a local station and a remote station through one trunk test equipment and to simplify the structure of the trunk test equipment by configuring the paths of the analog and digital characteristic tests identically. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for testing trunks in an exchange is composed of processor parts(110,150), trunk test blocks(120,160) and switching-trunk parts(130,170). The processor parts(110,150) output control signals indicating analog and digital characteristic tests for a trunk and receive test results from the trunk test blocks(120,160). The trunk test blocks(120,160) generate test signals according to the control signals of the processor parts(110,150), supply them through a switch interfacing connection channel, and output test results to the processor parts(110,150). The switching-trunk parts(130,170) transmit the test signals supplied from the trunk test blocks(120,160) to a remote terminal and provide a test result inputted from the remote terminal to the trunk test blocks(120,160). The trunk test blocks(120,160) respectively are comprised of control parts(121,161) and digital interface parts(122,162). The control parts(121,161) output control signals for analog and digital characteristic tests to the digital interface parts(122,162) according to the control signals of the processor parts(110,150). The digital interface parts(122,162) generate and output digital or analog test signals according to the control signals of the control parts(121,161).
