PURPOSE: A damper clutch controlling method of an automatic transmission for a vehicle makes correct engine braking force by controlling operating oil to implement deceleration direct connect control. CONSTITUTION: Whether the opening angle of a throttle valve is larger than 0% or not is decided by reading throttle valve opening angle and vehicle speed which are detected during driving. If the throttle valve opening angle is 0% and acceleration resistance is larger than rolling resistance, vehicle requiring brake force is calculated. Then, damper clutch controlling duty is decided and engine control requiring signal is outputted. Finally, decided damper clutch controlling duty is outputted. Thus, fuel economy is improved.
