PURPOSE: An engine idle controlling method of an automatic transmission for a vehicle is used to divide an engine idle rpm(revolutions per minute) control to about a neutral gear and a driving gear and control them, respectively. CONSTITUTION: At first, whether the position of a selector lever is in N range or not is decided. If the selector lever is in N range, an engine idle rpm is set as the predetermined first value, a predetermined idle control signal is outputted, and whether the selector lever is converted to a driving gear or not is decided. If the selector lever is converted to the driving gear, a predetermined engine idle elevation requirement signal is outputted and corresponding shift requiring signal is outputted. Therefore, an engine idle rpm is separatedly controlled, thereby reducing fuel and engine noise on a low fluid temperature when the selector lever is in the N range.
