PURPOSE: A running detector and its detecting method detects the forward/backward running to control. CONSTITUTION: A detector comprises a speed meter gear, a speed meter driving gear(11), a supporting shaft(12), a one-way clutch(13) and a car speed sensor(14). The speed meter gear is installed on an output shaft of a car transmission. The speed meter driving gear(11) is engaged with the speed meter gear. The supporting shaft(12) is installed to the transmission to support the speed meter driving gear(11). The one-way clutch(13) is installed on the supporting shaft(12) together with the speed meter driving gear(11) to be operated by the forward and the backward running of a car respectively. The car speed sensor(14) is installed on the supporting shaft(12) to detect the rotation frequency of the output shaft. When the car speed is over 0rpm, the car is determined to run forward. when the rotation frequency of the output shaft is under 0 rpm, the car is determined to stop. When the rotation frequency of the output shaft is over 0 rpm and the car speed is 0 rpm, The car is determined to run backward.
