PURPOSE: A DPM(Display Power Management) control system and method is provided to release a power reducing state of the DPM mode by sampling image signals and sensing a change of the image signals in the case that a monitor receives the image signal directly not by an input device after the user sets the DPM node at the computer. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises an input device(100), a personal computer(110), and a monitor(120). The personal computer(110) outputs RGB image signals and horizontal/vertical synchronization signals under a control of variable image decision signal or designated DMP mode. The monitor(120) displays the RGB image signals in synchronization with the horizontal/vertical synchronization signals, and controls the output of the horizontal/vertical synchronization signals by sensing a change of the RGB image signals and transmitting the variable image decision signals to the PC(110). The monitor(120) includes a AD converter(121), a microcomputer(122) and a video device(123). The micro computer(122) controls the display of the RGB image signals according to a transmission of the horizontal/vertical synchronization signals, and senses a level change of the image signals.
