PURPOSE: A converter is provided to increase the torque as needed by controlling the stator speed depending on each speed for a pump impeller and a turbine, by which each starting, acceleration and shift quality is improved. CONSTITUTION: A converter is provided with a wet multi-plate clutch between a stator(8) and a reactor shaft(10). An outer gear part(14) around an outer circumference of an inner lace(12) coupled to a reactor shaft(10) is formed where several clutch discs(16) are arranged. An inner wheel gear part(20) is formed around the inside for an outer lace(18) where several clutch plates(22) are disposed between the clutch plates(16). A piston(26) is arranged to a side wall(24) inside of the outer lace(18) supported to the reactor shaft(10) without any rotation, where a hydraulic chamber(28) is built up between the piston(26) and the side wall(24). A return spring(30) is disposed between the piston(26) and the inner lace(12). Therefore the piston(26) moves forward to activate the clutch when the hydraulic pressure is supplied to the flow path formed to the reactor shaft(10) , while the clutch is released by the return spring(30), when the hydraulic pressure is released. A free lock-up is implemented at an almost same time by detecting each rotational speed for the pump impeller and the turbine. A new lock-up point is assigned by increasing the torque under fixing the stator(10) speed when the vehicle powder is unsufficient during the lock-up time.
