PURPOSE: An interworking method between IP(Internet Protocol) packet data transfer devices is provided to make the devices, transferring IP packet data after accessing links through an ATM ARP(Address Resolution Protocol) function in an IPOA(Internet Protocol Over ATM), obtain ATM addresses for destination IP addresses without going through ATM SVC(Switched Virtual Connection) setup procedures so that the devices can actively be interworked mutually. CONSTITUTION: An ATM ARP server(31) transmits an ATM ARP request message to an RNC(Radio Network Controller)(30) and a PDSN(Packet Data Serving Node)(32) in order to request their respective IP addresses. As the RNC(30) and the PDSN(32) transmit ATM ARP reply messages to the ATM ARP server(31) in response to the request, IP address registration is completed. In this manner, the ATM ARP server(31) obtains the IP addresses for the RNC(30) and the PDSN(32). Afterward, if the RNC(30) wants to transmit IP packet data to the PDSN(32), the RNC(30) transfers an ATM ARP request message, including its own IP address and a destination IP address, to request the ATM ARP server(31) to allocate an ATM PVC(Permanent Virtual Connection)(S12). The ATM ARP server(31), receiving the ATM ARP request message, recognizes that information contained in the message indicates the link access request to the PDSN(32). Confirming the destination IP address, the ATM ARP server(31) allocates one ATM PVC to the RNC(30). As a result, the ATM ARP server(31) transmits an ATM ARP reply message to the RNC(30) in response to the ATM ARP request message(S13).
