PURPOSE: To enable the production of a track discriminating signal without increasing the number of components or complicating the constitution of the components, even when an optical recording medium adopting the 'land/groove system' such as e.g. 'DVD-RAM' is used. CONSTITUTION: A main light spot and a sub-light spot for the recording/ reproducing operation are formed on the optical disk. The sub-light spot is provided with the distance from an objective lens different with respect to the main light spot and also formed at the position where the equation S≒Pn/2 is valid when an absolute value of the distance with respect to the main light spot in the normal line direction of the recording track on the optical disk is expressed as S, the track pitch (distance between land part-land part) is expressed as P and n is integer.
