PURPOSE: To lessen the generation of bright-lines by projections, such as gates, even when the sufficient scattering of illumination light is difficult within a light transmission plate, when the light transmission plate, side light type surface light source device and liquid crystal display are applied to the light transmission plate repetitively formed with the projections by a pair of slopes particularly on an exit surface and a surface facing the exit surface along an incident surface and the liquid crystal display using the side light type light source device. CONSTITUTION: Projections 4h, projecting from a flank 4G, are formed nearer to the rear surface 4B side than a virtual line which bisects the flank 4G of the light transmission plate 4 in the thickness direction.
