PURPOSE: A hood-cum-device for detecting filter of microwave oven is provided to detect contamination of a filter accurately, and to alarm the replacement time of the filter. CONSTITUTION: A filter detecting apparatus of a microwave oven comprises: a filter having a transparent unit(54) in an exhaust passage of a microwave oven; a light emitting unit(62) installed in the transparent unit of the filter to emit light; a light receiving unit(64) in the transparent unit receiving light from the light emitting unit through the transparent unit; and a control unit(70) detecting a pollution level of the transparent unit by comparing the received light with the reference value. The control unit detects the contamination of the filter by detecting the pollution level of the transparent unit. The replacement time of the filter is alarmed with a buzzer(72) and a lamp(74) in detecting the contamination degree of the transparent unit to be over the reference value.
