PURPOSE: A device for processing an ONU(Optical Network Unit) of an ATM-PON(Asynchronous Transfer Mode-Passive Optical Network) system is provided to add the QoS(Quality of Service) buffering function, a real-time OAM(Operation And Management) processing function by hardware, and a UPC(Usage Parameter Control) function, for 622Mbps traffic. CONSTITUTION: An ODN(Optical Distribution Network) interface unit(100) performs a physical layer function requested for connection of an ONU(Optical Network Unit) to the ODN. An ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) processing unit(200) transceives ATM cells with the ODN interface unit(100), and performs the QoS(Quality of Service) buffering function according to header conversion for bidirectional ATM cells, routing and service grades by connections, a real-time OAM(Operation And Management) processing function, and a UPC(Usage Parameter Control) function. An AAL-1(ATM Adaptation Layer-1) processing unit(300) transceives ATM cells with the ATM processing unit(200), and performs AAL-1 processing functions, such as a segmentation and reassembly function for subscriber lines, a pointer processing and generating function, an ATM cell processing and generating function, and an SRTS(Synchronous Residual Time Stamp) clock restoration and CDV support function. A processor connection unit(400) controls an operation mode, reads an operation state, inserts an OAM cell in bidirectional, extracts an OAM cell to external, and reads/writes upward/downward connection memory of external for connection setup and release.
