PURPOSE: An operating method is provided, in which methanol primary fuel is changed into dimethyl ether-contained fuel on a vehicle body for operating a compression ignition engine, by eliminating the difficulty in handling and storing of the fuel, particularly on a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: In an operating method of a compression ignition engine, using dimethly ether-contained fuel obtained by converting methanol primary fuel, the operating method comprises steps in which, (a) methanol primary fuel is compressed in a liquid-state to the end engine injection pressure, (b) the compressed primary fuel is preheated by heat provided in exhaust gas of the engine, (c) primary fuel is introduced at injection temperature and injection pressure of the engine and converted into dimethyl ether-contained fuel by contact with methanol dewatered catalyst and (d) the dimethyl ether-contained fuel is injected at injection pressure and injection temperature into the engine.
