PURPOSE: A system for treating exhaust gas is provided to prolong the service time of a trap and to improve solid matter trapping efficiency of the trap by promoting the accumulation of solid matter in places other than those being in the vicinity of a gas inflow port of the trap. CONSTITUTION: The trap comprises: a cylindrical vessel having two openings at its both ends respectively, one of which is used as a gas inflow port and the other of which is used as a gas outflow port; and inside the vessel, a gas flow passage which is connected to a discharged gas flow passage system and formed between the gas inflow port and the gas outflow port and also consists of a main flow passage that is formed so as to spirally extend, and auxiliary flow passages each of which is branched from a part of the main flow passage and connected to another part of the main flow passage, wherein the main flow passage is formed by thin sheets which are attached to the surface of a cylindrical shaft placed inside the vessel and the auxiliary flow passages are formed by openings of the thin sheets, each of which is opened in a prescribed position of the corresponding one of the thin sheets.
