PURPOSE: An EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system is provided to prevent the degradation of engine output by reducing soot in the exhaust gas supplied to a combustion chamber, to lengthen the life of an engine and to restrain environmental pollution by collecting soot in an inlet of a muffler. CONSTITUTION: An EGR system comprises an engine(30) having an intake manifold(31) and an exhaust manifold(32), an EGR pipe(33) connected with the exhaust and intake manifolds to recirculate exhaust gas from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold, an exhaust pipe(34) having a second branched passage(34a), plural solenoid valves(43,44) installed in first and second branched passages(33a,34a), filters(35,36) set in the first and second branched passages to remove impurities in exhaust gas, first and second negative pressure sensors(37,58) installed in intersections(33b,34b), an ECU(Electronic Control Unit)(40) outputting solenoid valve controlling signals, and a display unit automatically detecting the change of the solenoid valves. As the filter of the first branched passage collects soot, the durability and output degradation of the engine is minimized. The filter in an inlet of a muffler(52) collects soot. If the filter is clogged, the solenoid valves are automatically switched. Therefore, the EGR system is able to cope with exhaust gas regulation by filtering exhaust gas.
