PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise the illuminance of a projected image and to miniaturize a projector device. SOLUTION: A plurality of light sources 12 are provided, and a wedge-shaped prism is used to narrow the width of a luminous flux of light radiated from these light sources 12. This light is guided by an optical element of an illuminating optical system 13, is modulated by three liquid crystal panels LCg and is projected onto a screen from a projection optical system 14. The light sources 12 are arranged on a plane B orthogonal to a plane A on which the optical element is arranged. A lens barrel 45 of the projection optical system 14 is so supported that it can be shifted by a shift mechanism 54.
