PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a display device that a longer TFT panel operation time is secured, and a display time equivalent to or longer than that of a black blanking type can be obtained, and a contrast sharper than that of the black blanking type can be obtained, by setting a back-light lighting time irrespective of a TFT panel scanning time and a liquid crystal response time. SOLUTION: This display device is provided with a gate driver 2 for performing display scanning for setting a display state of the pixels in accordance with information to be displayed to the pixels of the TFT liquid crystal panel 7, sequentially in the 1st direction of the TFT liquid crystal panel 7 where the pixels, of which the display states are individually controllable by irradiating them with light, are two-dimensionally arranged. The pixels being scanned for the display are irradiated with light stronger in intensity than the other pixels.
