PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide digital communication equipment effectively utilizing a storage device space. SOLUTION: Voice recording is carried out in a GMS telephone handset in such a manner that voice frames are recorded while voice exists and one or a plurality of SID frames and data representing a voiceless duration time are recorded in a storage device 116 while voiceless continues. Because the device 116 does not record a voiceless frame according to this method, a storage space can extremely efficiently be utilized. According to this invention, items such as the existing voice activity detector and comfort noise estimator are reused as a part of a GSM system in the handset, and the existing hardware and software can consequently and effectively utilized.
