PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing method and an optical recording and reproducing device, with which high density recording is enabled and reproducing operation is made secure as well while keeping compatibility with a conventional optical recording medium by utilizing proximate field light. SOLUTION: By performing recording on the optical recording medium while utilizing the proximate field light emitting from the fine aperture of a proximate field light probe 1 as a recording head, a fine pit, which exceeds the diffraction limit of light, can be recorded and compatibility with the case of the conventional optical recording medium is secured. At the time of reproducing, on the other hand, the surface potential of the optical recording medium is detected by impressing a voltage to a gap with the optical recording medium by an integrated reproducing head composed of a metal shield film formed on the outer surface of the proximate field light probe 1 without emitting light from the fine aperture of the proximate field light probe 1 and recorded information can be surely reproduced on the basis of the change amount of that potential. |
