<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device, with which time for recording an input signal on a recording medium can be prolonged corresponding to the remaining recording capacity of the recording medium. SOLUTION: A disk device 7 inside a recording and reproducing device 1 is supplied with a compressed signal generated by a compression circuit 5 through a buffer memory 6 and switching circuit 9 and records the signal on the recording region of a disk-shaped recording medium 100. Besides, when the remaining recording regions are less than a set quantity, the compressed signal recorded on the recording region is reproduced and supplied to an extension circuit 11. This compressed signal is compressed at a greater compression rate through the extension circuit 11 and a compression circuit 12 and supplied to a buffer memory 13. When the remaining capacity is less than the set value, the disk device 7 generates a vacant region on the recording region by overwriting and recording the compressed signal from the buffer memory 13 onto the recording region and the compressed signal from the buffer memory 6 is recorded on the remaining recording regions and the vacant region.</p> |
