PURPOSE: The wrong operation prevention device of a shift lever for an auto transmission prevents the wrong operation of a shift step during running by locking a shift operation from a D range to a N range during running and releasing a lock only when a driver has a will to release. CONSTITUTION: A wrong operation prevention device comprises a pressure sensor, an electronic control unit(ECU), an operation rod(4) and a solenoid(6). The pressure sensor is mounted around a steering wheel and detects a pressure difference when grasping the steering wheel with one hand and two hand. The ECU compares and judges an electricity sign received from the pressure sensor. The operation rod(4) locks the shift lever during running by being set between the N(neutrality) range and the D(driving) range of a locking plate in the shift lever. The solenoid(6) releases the lock by moving an operation road straight, if a power source is passed according to the electricity sign of the ECU. Therefore, the device prevents the increase of an RPM and the interception of a power passed to a wheel during running.
