PURPOSE: A utopia interface and a data transmission method using the same are provided so that a capacity and data transmission speed of the first input first output unit can be adjusted according to system requirements, by adding a utopia controller for controlling an interface of the first input first output units. CONSTITUTION: A utopia interface includes an ATM layer device(300), a physical layer device(303), the first input first output unit(302) and a utopia controller(301). Here, the first input first output unit(302) buffers a data transmission speed between the ATM layer device(300) and the physical layer device(303). The utopia controller(301) controls the ATM layer device(300), the physical layer device(303) and the first input first output unit(302) in order to transmit/receive data between the ATM layer device(300) and the physical layer device(303). In addition, the first input first output unit(302) and the utopia controller(301) may be incorporated. In this case, the utopia interface consists of an ATM layer device, a physical layer device and the first input first output unit/utopia controller(302) for adjusting a data transmission speed in order to transmit/receive data between the ATM layer device and the physical layer device. Accordingly, data transmission can be efficiently carried out between the ATM layer device and the physical layer device.
