PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a very natural composited image signal from a moving picture and a still picture. SOLUTION: Through the selection of a contact (b) of a changeover switch SW2 and of the composition of a moving picture area in a moving picture signal and a still picture recorded in a PCM area, a moving picture area detection circuit 207 detects a moving picture area of a moving picture signal outputted from a memory 206 and a moving picture area extracting circuit 208 extracts only the moving picture area. On the other hand, the PCM still picture signal reproduced from the PCM area is stored in a memory 210 via a PCM reproduction processing circuit 209 and a moving picture area elimination circuit 211 eliminates an area decided to be the moving picture area by the moving picture area detection circuit 207. An adder 212 adds the moving picture signal and the still picture signal thus obtained and a digital/analog converter 213 converts the added signal into an analog signal and provides an output of it.
