PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacitance type level gauge capable of stably detecting a level of an object to be measured even when the level changes due to vibration or the like, and also capable of accurately detecting a level of an object even when a dielectric constant thereof changes depending upon temperatures. SOLUTION: The level gauge comprises a capacitance sensor SC in which capacitance value changes according to a change of the level of the object to be measured, a capacitance detecting oscillator circuit 15 including the capacitance sensor SC as a capacitance component of a CR multi-vibrator, a frequency counting circuit 21 for counting a frequency of a signal generated by the capacitance detecting oscillator circuit 15, latch circuit 23 for maintaining a counted value by the frequency counting circuit 21, and a reference oscillator circuit 17 for generating a latch command to the latch circuit 23 and a initializing command to the frequency counting circuit 21 with a specific time interval.
