PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an accurate measurement by trace amount of a reagent by using a light source having a long life of a filament and enough quantity of light without a large change in a system. SOLUTION: A light source 21 is provided so that a filament 21F of the light source 21 mounted in a photometry system of the automatic analyzer is inclined to a reaction pipe 4 at an a designated angleθ. Thus, the length of a filament image 21FZ radiated on the reaction pipe 4 can be reduced. Accordingly, the liquid height required for measurement can be lowered so that a trace of tested sample and reagent poured into the reaction pipe will be sufficient. This automatic analyzer can be effected only by inclining the light source at a designated angle, so that the change of the system can be held down to the minimum. Since a lamp of an ordinary size can be used as the light source 21, accurate measurement can be made with enough quantity of light. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the disadvantage of shortening the life of the lamp as in the case of using a small-size lamp.
