摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic memory device having >=10 Gbit/inch2 recording density, low error rate and excellent reliability. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a seed layer on a substrate and has a magnetic layer formed on the seed layer with a base layer interposed. The seed layer of the magnetic recording medium is formed from an amorphous alloy or fine crystal alloy containing Ni, Ta and Zr, and the base layer is formed from an alloy essentially consisting of Cr and containing Ti. The magnetic layer consists of a first magnetic layer in contact with the base layer and a second magnetic layer formed on the first magnetic layer. The first magnetic layer is substantially formed from a Co-Cr-Pt alloy having a hexagonal close-packed(HCP) structure. The second magnetic layer is substantially formed from a Co-Cr-Pt-B alloy having a hexagonal close-packed(HCP) structure.
