PURPOSE: A device for cooling an optical fiber is provided to improve a cooling efficiency and thereby reducing a consumption amount of a cooling gas. CONSTITUTION: In a device for cooling an optical fiber, a device(11) for controlling a line-leading speed of an optical fiber is provided. A controller(12) controls the device for controlling a line-leading speed of an optical fiber. A variable body(13) and an auto-controllable gas valve(14) drive the cooling device by the control of the controller. Also, the variable body and the auto-controllable gas valve make a low consumption of the cooling gas. The variable body allows to diminish or expand the cubage thereof. The auto-controllable valve supplies the gas corresponding to the line-leading speed of the optical fiber to make a low consumption of the cooling gas.
