PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for long-term storage of rolls, in which even for a roll of large weight load, deflection due to self-weight is prevented from occurring, a service life prolongation of an outer skin for the roll to be machined at the outer skin is realized (including a curved roll), and detection of irregularities is facilitated. SOLUTION: In the roll storage method, where the roll of high weight load is stored with both ends being supported horizontally by bearings, the roll is kept in continuous rotation during the long-term storage under such low speed capable of preventing the deflection to occur due to own weight, and, if the roll is a cylinder in which a piston is included, the roll is kept in continuous rotation with the low speed during the long-term storage under the conditions that a oil film is formed between the roller inner surface and the piston sliding surface.
