PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a recyclable recording material by which a recording material whose image removing performance lowers hardly even when it is allowed to stand for a long period of time in a humid environment is obtained without causing yellowing. SOLUTION: A coating solution for a surface layer containing at least a water-soluble resin is applied on a base layer or a middle adhesive layer and the water-soluble resin is crosslinked by heating to produce the objective recyclable recording material. The crosslinking by heating is carried out in such a state of the surface layer that the residual water content per unit weight after heating at 70 deg.C for 30 min is adjusted to >=0.1 W when the water content per unit weight after the uncrosslinked recording material is allowed to stand in an environment at 25 deg.C and 85% RH is represented by W.
