摘要 PURPOSE: A method of determining the optimal discarding threshold value of a viterbi decoding device on a digital communication system is provided to minimize the load for calculation by calculating the optimal discarding threshold using the channel states, the bit error rate and the number of survived states. CONSTITUTION: In the method of determining the optimal discarding threshold value of a viterbi, in step (801), the signal-to-noise rate of the input signal of a digital communication system and the constraint length(K) of the decoder are calculated. In step (802), the bit error rate(BER) and the number of survived states are calculated using the signal-to-noise rate and the constraint length(K). In step (803), whether the BER and the number of survived states reach the reference is checked. If true, in step (804), the optimal discarding threshold value(T) is calculated. If not, the procedure moves back to step (802).
