PURPOSE: A channel searching method of a mobile communication system is provided to shorten time required for a power scan by first searching a call channel of an area which is pre-set by a user. CONSTITUTION: When a mobile phone is powered on(202), an absolute radio frequency number(ARFCN) of a broadcast control channel(BCCH) is searched(204). If an ARFCN of a previous BCCH is not detected(206), a priority searching ARFCN list which has been previously stored in a memory of the mobile phone is searched(208). If the priority searching ARFCN list is not searched(210), a full power scanning is performed(212). An ARFCN of an upper level is searched(214), and BCCHs of each ARFCN are searched(216). If it is a BCCH(218), it is synchronized with the searched ARFCN and registered for a network(220). If an ARFCN of a previous BCCH is detected(206), a BCCH of the ARFCN is searched(222). If it is BCCH, it is synchronized with the searche ARFCN and registered for a network(220).
