PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic steam discharge lamp that is improved in startup characteristics without using metallic filament for radiating ultraviolet light. SOLUTION: A lighting tube 121 is made of ultraviolet light transmitting glass tube and by disposing the lighting tube 121 at a position where the light including ultraviolet light is radiated to the luminous tube 2 while the lighting tube 121 is working, the lighting tube 121 can be utilized not only as a pulse voltage startup device but also as an emitting source of ultraviolet light, thereby realizing a lowering of startup voltage and shortening of starting time. |
