PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation method and device to receive GPS signals to display a route from a starting point to a destination especially provided with functions to link external data and external groups to main map data, to transmit and receive data from an external station, etc. SOLUTION: The navigation method and device are provided with a step to store main map data, a plurality of items of data associated with navigation derived from the main map data, data on external data and external groups, etc., in memory, a step to edit and delete the stored data, a step to retrieve a present location from the main-map data and GPS signals, a step to retrieve a route along a road from a starting point to destination, a step to compute the distance of the retrieved route from the starting point to the destination, and a step to display the retrieved route as a track. In the navigation method and device, external data such as an original map and compact flash is linked to the main map data. By this constitution, it is possible to utilize external map data also for retrieving and displaying a route. |
