PURPOSE: An illumination system of a reflective display is provided to reduce a defect of a compact optic system used in the reflective display. CONSTITUTION: A head mounted virtual display unit(50) is formed with a display(52), a controllable boom(54), a left and a right head support portion(56,58), a head band(60), an ear cap(62), and a cable(64). The head mounted virtual display unit(50) is combined with a computer based unit(70). Image information is provided to a display through the cable(64). The ear cap(62) is used for listening voice data generated from the computer based unit(70). A microphone(63) is used for inputting a user's voice into a computer. An optical system is used in the display(52). The optical system includes an illumination system for irradiating a reflective micro-display. The illumination system is formed with the first prism, a reflective layer, and the second prism.
