PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which the jointed quality of a metal pipe is inspected with better accuracy. SOLUTION: Transverse-wave ultrasonic waves are made incident on a thermally affected part near the jointed part of the metal pipe. Scattered waves which are scattered by a grain boundary existing in the propagation path of the ultrasonic waves or by its internal texture are detected. Whether the metal pipe is jointed satisfactorily or not is evaluated based on preliminarily found correlation data on the intensity of the scattered waves, on a crystal particle size, on a welding temperature or on a mechanical characteristic. |
