PURPOSE: A deciding method for an abnormal state of a vehicle is provided to conveniently detect the abnormal cylinder for precisely preventing deterioration of engine output caused by misfires. CONSTITUTION: An extreme value of a cylinder operated by traveling of a vehicle is measured for being established as a first compare value. Then, oxygen amount in an exhaust system is measured. In case of an abnormal state of the cylinder, fuel amount is compensated according to the oxygen amount. By measuring an extreme value of the cylinder for an established time, an average value is established as a second compare value. In case of the difference between first and second established value over an established value, more than two cylinders are decided in the abnormal state. Otherwise, one cylinder is decided to be in the abnormal state. In case of the first compare value over the second compare value, the abnormal state is decided for the cylinder after the abnormal cylinder. Otherwise, the abnormal state is decided for the cylinder before the abnormal cylinder.
