PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for forming image in sheet through system, with which an influence caused by dirt such as dust stuck on contact glass can be reduced when reading the image of an original. SOLUTION: After an optical scan unit is moved to a sheet through reading position (step S1005), when the magnification/reduction power of the original is of <=100% (YES in step S1008), the image of the original is read after moving the optical scan unit oppositely to an original feeding direction at an original feeding speed set lower than an original feeding speed determined by the power just for the moving speed of the optical scan unti. When the magnification/ reduction power of the original exceeds 100% (NO in step S1008), the image of the original is read after moving the optical scan unit in the same direction as the original feeding direction at an original feeding speed set higher than the original feeding speed determined by the power just for the moving speed of the optical scan unit.
