PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To input a desired character and the like with an electronic camera by a simple operation. SOLUTION: A system becomes a data input mode by depressing a data input on/off button 28a. At the data input mode, the multiple characters are displayed at the peripheral edge of the screen of a picture display device 22. An electronic dial 14 is turned to the right and therefore the selected characters are successively changed clockwise in a circulating character group. Then, the selected characters are successively changed counterclockwise by turning the electronic dial 14 to the left. Selection is decided by depressing a decision button 26, the input characters until then are decided and they are recorded in a recording medium.
