PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of an infrared camera by using the infrared image pickup element of a room temperature operation. SOLUTION: An element temperature control circuit 18 is constituted of a control temperature memory 19, a D/A conversion circuit 20 and a differential amplifier circuit 14. Am element temperature detection circuit 23 detects the temperature immediately after power is supplied to a detector array 3. A/D conversion is conducted and temperature data is stored in a control temperature memory 19. Data stored in the control temperature memory 19 is D/A-converted in the D/A conversion circuit 20 and a D/A-converted signal and the output of the element temperature detection circuit 12 during image pickup are inputted to the differential amplifier circuit 14. The difference of them is fed back to an element temperature control means 11. Thus, the operation temperature of the detector array 3 is controlled to the temperature immediately after power is supplied, namely, an ambient temperature immediately after power is supplied and an image is picked up.
