PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device, for a measuring instrument, in which the illumination part of a display plate of good visibility is provided. SOLUTION: A pointer 2 which is moved at a deflection angle according to a measuring amount is provided. The display plate 2 which comprises a prescribed arrangement pattern corresponding to the pointer 2 and in which a plurality of translucent index parts 3A to 3S are arranged is provided. A plurality of light sources 4A to 4S which are arranged on the rear side of the display plate 3 according to the index parts 3A to 3S and which illuminate the index parts 3A to 3S are provided. A control means B which controls the turning-on state of the light sources 4A to 4S according to the deflection angle of the pointer 2 is provided.
