PURPOSE: A self-diagnosis method for a rail pressure sensor is provided for an ECU(Electronic Control Unit) to perform a safety mode through detecting an error in a sensor by comparing a signal from a rail pressure sensor with a controlling signal of a rail adjusting signal. CONSTITUTION: In case of a crank angle sensor deciding a normal engine RPM(Revolutions Per Minute), a rail pressure sensor decides a normal signal from an ECU(Electronic Control Unit). In case of a normal detect signal from the rail pressure sensor, a pulse width modulate signal for controlling a rail pressure adjusting valve is detected. A specific fuel pressure is generated by subtracting a real fuel pressure from an established fuel pressure in the ECU. In case of the normal fuel pressure, an average common rail pressure is calculated. In case of the calculated average common rail pressure value between minimum and maximum values, the common rail pressure sensor is decided to be normal.
