PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for avoiding a deadlock of a multi-bus computer system is provided to improve a bus performance by detecting a potential deadlock state in case that one or more different agents simultaneously access to an arbitrary agent, and by restricting an agent capable of generating a deadlock. CONSTITUTION: A mask generator(41) detects a deadlock, and generates a mask signal. A request signal selector(42) temporarily cuts off a request signal till the mask generator(41) completes a mask signal generation operation. A mask processing unit(43) masks a signal outputted from the request signal selector(42) with the mask signal outputted from the mask generator(41).
