摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information medium capable of higher density recording. SOLUTION: An optical information medium 10 wherein optically readable information is recorded has liquid crystal layers 2 in which the alignment of a liquid crystal phase having a helical structure is fixed on the surface of a substrate 1 having plural pits 4a-4c having information carrying depths different from one another is characterized in that the thicknesses of the liquid crystal layers 2 are different depending on the depths of the pits 4a-4c. Light made incident to each of plural pits 4a-4c is selectively reflected in each pit 4a-4c and the intensities of selectively reflected light in each pit 4a-4c is different from one another depending on the thickness of the liquid crystal layers 2 in each pit 4a-4c. Therefore, the intensities of transmitted light or intensities of reflected light are different in each pit 4a-4c.
