PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to apply sub-sampling to a CCD at a faster speed. SOLUTION: In one embodiment of this invention, a clock speed of an output register gate driver of the charge coupled device is increased while eliminating image electric charges. Then the clock speed slows down only for a time when pixel charges are to be stored. Furthermore, a reset gate signal is latched active for the elimination time so as to provide a low impedance path to the image electric charges.
