PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a lateral stripe like picture defect caused by bringing an elastic layer of an intermediate transfer body into contact with a photoreceptor at the time of stopping the drive of the intermediate transfer body in an image forming device in which a toner image on the intermediate transfer body is transferred and, at the same time, fixed on a recording paper. SOLUTION: The intermediate transfer body 5 is pushed down toward the upstream side and downstream side of four image forming units 10a-10d which are arranged so as to oppose the intermediate transfer body 5 and, thereby, pressing members 18, 19 which separate the intermediate transfer body 5 from photoreceptor drums 1 are disposed. When the drive of the photoreceptor drum 1 and the intermediate transfer body 5 are stopped, the intermediate transfer body 5 is separated from the four photoreceptor drums 1 by driving the pressing members 18, 19. Further, when the drive of the photoreceptor drum 1 and the intermediate transfer body 5 is reopened, the intermediate transfer body 5 is brought into contact with the photoreceptor drum 1 again by returning the pressing members 18, 19 to the original positions.
