摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information recording and reproducing device which uses a volumetric holographic memory consisting of a photorefractive crystalline body and may be downsized. SOLUTION: This optical information recording and reproducing device has a supporting means which freely mountably supports the volumetric holographic memory having the shape of revolution body having a rotationally symmetric axis of rotation and having planes perpendicular to the rotationally symmetric axis of rotation at both ends, a reference light means which makes a coherent reference light beam of a first wavelength incident on the volumetric holographic memory, a signal light means which makes the coherent signal light beam modulated according to image data on the volumetric holographic memory, intersects the beam with the reference light therein and forms a refractive index grating of a three-dimensional light interference pattern with the reference light beam and a means which detects the diffracted light generated by the irradiation of the refractive index grating of the light interference pattern with the reference light beam. The supporting means holds the volumetric holographic memory in a position where the signal light beam passes the planes at both ends of the volumetric holographic memory.
