METHOD FOR OPERATING COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL

PURPOSE: A method for operating a communication protocol is provided to allow an application program layer to offer a security function efficiently in a current WAP(Wireless Application Protocol) standard. CONSTITUTION: A server detects a pre-master secret, and then generates a message(ServoHello). The server generates a master secret and a key block. The server generates key values used in encryption, decryption algorithms and an MAC(Message Authentication Code) algorithm. The server generates a message(ChangeCiperSpec) for informing that it will send a ciphered message. The server generates a message(Finished). The server transmits the generated messages to a client. The client calculates a master secret, a key block, a final ciphered key and an MAC key value in the same way as the server does. The client identifies that a message from the server has been ciphered. The client transmits a record(ChangeCiperSpec) for informing that it will send a message processed on the basis of a key value agreed with the server, to the server.
